The Citi Open, also referred to as the Washington Open, is an annual tennis event held in Washington, D.C., United States. The event is part of the ATP Tour 500 collection on the Affiliation of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tour and the WTA 250 collection on the Ladies’s Tennis Affiliation (WTA) tour.
The Citi Open was first held in 1969 as a males’s-only event and was generally known as the Washington Star Worldwide. The event was renamed the Legg Mason Tennis Traditional in 1999 and the Citi Open in 2012. The ladies’s event was added in 2012.
