Yom Ha’atzmaut, also called Israeli Independence Day, commemorates the anniversary of the Israeli Declaration of Independence, which was proclaimed on Might 14, 1948 (5 Iyar 5708). It’s an official Israeli nationwide vacation, and is usually celebrated with parades, picnics, barbecues, and fireworks.
