Juneteenth, also referred to as Freedom Day, is a federal vacation in the USA commemorating the emancipation of African American slaves. It’s celebrated yearly on June 19, the date the Union Military arrived in Galveston, Texas, in 1865, with the information that the Civil Warfare had ended and that the enslaved individuals had been now free.
Juneteenth has been celebrated because the late nineteenth century, and it grew to become a state vacation in Texas in 1980. In 2021, Juneteenth was lastly acknowledged as a federal vacation, making it the twelfth federal vacation in the USA.
